The benefits of using google fonts on your website projects
What are Google fonts?
Google fonts have been around for over a decade, but If you’re unaware, Google provides an open-source (FREE) library of custom fonts and icons for websites and web applications that can be easily integrated into your website. It’s an ever growing library which offers a comprehensive selection of fonts no matter what your business category or brand style.
Why are Google fonts great for use on websites?
Google fonts are a popular choice for both web designers and developers as they provide high quality fonts in a very convenient integration, and they don’t cost a dime! Below are a few reasons why I tend to use Google fonts for most of my web design projects.
Easy to implement and widely supported
Adding custom fonts to your website can sometimes be tricky, but not with Google fonts. Is as simple as copy and pasting a piece of code into your website and assigning the fonts to the relevant pieces of text.
Most website builders, wordpress theme and page builders already have Google Fonts built in, so in most cases you don’t have to do anything except select the font from a dropdown in your preferred website building application.
Google fonts support both print and web font formats
Once you’ve found a font you like, you can assign it to your website and then download a version to your computer to use on print projects or designing artwork.
This also comes in very handy when prototyping your website design on an application such as Adobe XD, as it gives you a true representation of how your fonts will display on your production website.

Growing font catalog
Google fonts are constantly adding more font options to their catalog, meaning no matter what category or style you’re looking for. There’s usually a font style that will work perfectly with your website design.
Google fonts are professionally designed
Google fonts are designed by renowned professional typography designers, so you can be sure that you’re getting great quality fonts. Some of Google fonts are becoming design staples in their own right with fonts such as Lato, Roboto, Poppins, playfair, Raleway and Montserrat to name just a few.
Google fonts are free to use
This is perhaps my favorite, they’re completely free to use! Paying for a font is no big problem if it solves your clients design challenges, but what I don’t like is paying subscriptions for fonts that need renewing in order to ensure that your clients websites retains it’s font styling , with Google Fonts I don’t have to worry about this, they’re free for ever!
They can be customized and curated to look like premium foundry fonts.
Yes it’s true, Google Fonts can look indistinguishable from premium fonts with a bit of styling applied to the transform, letter-spacing or kerning . Below are a few of my favorite Google fonts of 2022 with a bit of custom styling to add that certain je ne sais quoi. Feel free to take inspiration.
